Kano: Newly elected LG chair dies hours after announcement

He died after a brief illness suspected to be high blood pressure.

The newly elected chairman of Bebeji local government area of Kano state, Ali Namadi, has died barely 48 hours after he was declared winner of council polls.

Mr. Namadi was announced winner of the local government council polls held on saturday, January 16, by the Kano state Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) Chairman, Garba Sheka.

The late chairman who won the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) died in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to a statement signed by APC’s publicity committee chairman in Bebeji local government, Ibrahim Tiga, he died after a brief illness suspected to be high blood pressure.

The statement said Mr. Namadi drove himself to the hospital after which he was declared dead.

Mr. Tiga also confirmed the late chairman would be laid to rest according to Islamic rites at his residence in the local government area.

Meanwhile, APC cleared all the 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats at the state local government councils poll.
