The police command in Kano state says it arrested additional 61 suspects with dangerous weapons during the Hauwan Daushe celebration in different locations across the five emirates of the state.

The commissioner of police, Usaini Gumel, told journalists through telephone that the suspects were arrested during the second day of the celebration.

“We arrested 54 suspects yesterday (Thursday) with dangerous weapons of various descriptions and today (Friday) another 61 thugs were arrested with similar assorted weapons, illicit drugs and hemp across the state.

” So far about 115 suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons and hemp across the five emirates of Kano, Rano, Gaya, Bichi and Karaye.”

The commissioner said already area commanders of the metro, central and divisional police officers of the 44 LGAs had been briefed on how to sustain the ongoing fight against criminality in their areas.

He said the command was committed to dealing with all miscreants and their sponsors hellbent on taking advantage of festive periods to derail the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He warned those planning to perpetrate such acts to desist, as adequate security measures had been put in place at the identified locations, and that stringent strategies would be employed to checkmate the situation.

“We are on this course of taking concrete security measures to deal with any person or group of people that may want to take advantage of Hauwan Daushe to cause the breach of security

He said that already the command had increased surveillance and patrols in some identified areas where youths tended to exploit the show to promote nefarious activities.

He said the command’s intelligence units had also increased vigilance for collecting and putting into action relevant information to pre-empt likely emerging security threats.

“These proactive approaches are to allow the command to
adequately and swiftly respond to early warning signs of potential breach of security and maintain peace and order.”

The commissioner said the command was confident of surmounting the challenges posed by those category of youths that might exploit the show to unleash violence during the fasting period and beyond.

“Ultimately, our goal is to create a secure and harmonious
atmosphere for all residents of Kano State.

”We are making arrangements to prosecute all those arrested before a competent court of law.”
