Kano: Police hold man allegedly carrying 500 packets of Tramadol
Police in Kano on Monday arrested a 30-year-old man after dozens of Tramadol were allegedly found in his possession during a stop and search.
A spokesman for Kano police said over 500 packets of the illicit drug were found in an unregistered vehicle driven by the suspect.
“The suspect was driving an unregistered white Honda Accord, 2016 model when he was stopped for a search,” said police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa.
Mr Haruna-Kiyawa did not name the suspect whom he said was apprehended along Kano’s Ahmadu Bello way.
“Upon investigation, he said the car belonged to a friend, who is also resident in Kano,” the police official added. “The friend asked him to hand over the car to a third person in another part of Kano,” the suspect claimed, according to Haruna-Kiyawa.
The police spokesman further explained that: “The friend was subsequently arrested and he admitted ownership of the car which he said he used to transport the Tramadol from Onitsha in Anambra state, for sale in Kano.”
Police will pursue an investigation into the matter, Mr Haruna-Kiyawa noted.
