Kano traffic agency apprehends truck carrying 4,600 bottles of alcohol

The Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has confirmed the seizure of a truck conveying more than 4,600 bottles of alcoholic drinks.
This is contained in a statement issued by the agency’s public relations officer, Nabilusi Abubakar, on Monday in Kano.
Mr Abubakar said, “The truck with registration number FGG 407 XB was apprehended along Ibrahim Taiwo Road around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday by an officer of the agency.
“Immediately, the driver saw the officer of the agency; he parked the truck and ran away.’’
The public relations officer also quoted the agency’s managing director, Faisal Kabir, as saying, “Once the investigation is completed, we will hand them over to Hisbah Board for necessary action.”
Mr Kabir further called on the general public to always support the agency for the security and safety of the state.
The state government has prohibited beer consumption in all parts of the state.
Hisbah, a religious police force in the state, has been given the mandate to confiscate and destroy bottles of alcoholic beverages in line with the dictates of Sharia Law, the Islamic legal code.
