Katsina begins sports education training for teachers

The Katsina State Government on Friday began a sports education training programme for about 20 selected secondary school teachers.
The ongoing training in Katsina was organised in partnership with a UK firm, Evolution Sports Development and Coaching, and You Vs You.
The initiative is titled, “Elevate Your Game: Educate Through Play and Unleash the Power of Sports in Classrooms.’’
The spokesperson for the Katsina Sports Media Directorate, Nasir Gide, said the participants were drawn from various secondary schools.
He said the six-day programme was designed to equip teachers with skills to deliver diverse sports activities in their schools.
He added that the scheme followed scientific evidence showing that sports strengthen learning capacity and improve academic performance.
Mr Gide said the training would expose teachers to modern coaching techniques in volleyball, basketball, and football.
He said a London-based instructor, Daniel Dorge, is leading the sessions at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium.
