The chief judge of Katsina, Justice Musa Danladi-Abubakar, has cautioned youths in the state against engaging in any form of cybercrime.

Mr Danladi-Abubakar gave the warning in Katsina on Wednesday during the graduation of 75 youths who had completed a three-day training on the positive use of mobile phones.

The training was organised by the Katsina Vocational Training Centre, with participants drawn from several local government areas across the state.

He noted that any cybercrime case taken to court requires no defence, as the offence is established by the evidence. According to him, a new law stipulates a minimum sentence of four years’ imprisonment for anyone found guilty of cybercrime.

He warned that youths must be cautious when using social media, stressing that careless use could easily make many users unsuspecting victims.

“I urge you to use your phones consciously, not only for interaction, but also for business, learning, and both Western and religious knowledge,” he said.

Mr Danladi-Abubakar described the training as a golden opportunity for beneficiaries and urged them to extend the knowledge gained to their communities.

Earlier, the coordinator of the centre, Danjuma Mohammed, said it was established in 2001 by the late MD Yusuf. He assured that the centre would not relent in its efforts to positively impact the lives of youths across Katsina.

Mr Mohammed added that the centre was liaising with local government chairmen to introduce the beneficiaries and secure sponsorship to extend the training. He explained that the goal was to enable more youths across different communities to benefit from the knowledge shared by the trained participants.

Some beneficiaries commended the initiative, promising to use the knowledge positively and pass it down to others in their communities.
