Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has condoled with the Nigeria Immigration Service over the death of two of its officers serving in the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ahmed Idris, made this known in a statement in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

The two officers, Isa Nafi’u and Garba Fana, lost their lives when suspected bandits launched an attack on them while on duty at Garin Garba entry point, about 12 kilometers away from Kangiwa, headquarters of Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The third officer escaped unharmed.

The governor’s aide said that Mr Idris personally attended the funeral prayer for the officers held in Birnin Kebbi and expressed dismay over the demise of the officers.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus. He added that Mr Idris appealed to the immediate families of the deceased and the NIS to take heart and accept the incident as the will of God Almighty in good faith.

He said the sacrifice they made to the nation would never be forgotten as their lives were cut short in the service to their motherland.

The governor encouraged other officers of the NIS not to be deterred by the act described as a notorious and bad element in society, urging them to continue with their legitimate and lawful duty.

He assured that the government was doing everything possible to ensure protection of lives and property of people across the state. Mr Idris therefore appealed for cooperation and support to policies and programmes of the present administration to enable it succeed.
