Kebbi governor’s wife seeks greater commitment to cancer prevention campaign

Zainab Bagudu, the wife of the Kebbi governor, has called on the government at all levels to show more commitment to cancer prevention awareness campaigns.
“All the tiers of government should support the society and the fight against cancer by implementing life-saving policies,” Mrs Bagudu said during a cancer awareness walk on Saturday in Abuja.
She said the walk tagged ”WalkAwayCancer” was aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of cancer and the need for prevention and early detection.
The governor’s wife said the anti-cancer campaign would yield more positive results if all tiers of government took it seriously.
She urged all levels of government to evolve policy measures to drive the prevention, care and treatment of cancer in the country.
Mrs Bagudu emphasised that early detection was key to the prevention and management of cancer, adding,” we should continue to preach this.”
She urged governments, corporate bodies and good spirited individuals to support the procurement of vaccines for the prevention of cervical cancer
Also speaking, Halima Tukur, a member of the House of Representatives, urged Nigerians to make themselves available for cancer screening periodically.
Ms Tukur also called on governments and other stakeholders to take steps towards supporting cancer patients.
Gloria Orji, a cancer survivor, said cancer was not a death sentence.
Ms Orji, who expressed confidence in the ability of early detection and medications to mitigate the impact of cancer, said it was time to show care to cancer patients.
She, therefore, urged cancer patients not to lose hope, assuring them of curea through dedication, faith and treatment.
