Kebbi police arrest man for killing couple

The Kebbi State police command says it has arrested Idrisu Mohammed, a 25-year-old man, for allegedly killing Muhammed Haruna and his wife, Habiba Muhammed, in Asarara Village, Jega Local Government Area.
The police spokesman, Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the couple was attacked by the suspect while they were asleep on May 9, 2026.
“The couple was attacked with a cutlass while asleep at about 0515 hours on 9th May 2026 in Asarara Village, Kimba District, Jega Local Government Area. Both died from their injuries,” he said.
Mr Usman said evidence linking the suspect to the crime had been recovered.
“Substantial and implicating evidence has been recovered linking the suspect to the crime. The suspect had reportedly intimidated the couple with a cutlass on several prior occasions,” he added.
He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, adding that the matter would be diligently pursued.
