Kemi Badenoch’s Conservative Party vows to end social housing for Nigerians, other foreign nationals in UK
The United Kingdom Conservative Party-led by Kemi Badenoch has vowed to end social housing for Nigerians and other foreign nationals in the country.
The shadow work and pensions secretary, Helen Whately, announced the Tories’s plan to cut foreigners from social housing in the UK in a video posted on X on Friday.
“Making Britain your home should be earned by working, paying tax and integrating,” Ms Whately said. “We will end social housing for foreign nationals and free up 230,000 homes for British families.”
In another post on X on the same matter, Ms Whately said Britain’s welfare system should not be a cash machine for foreigners.
“@Conservatives will make sure our welfare system always puts British people first. Our welfare system should be a safety net for British citizens – not a cash machine for migrants. The Conservatives will end access to social housing for foreign nationals, freeing up 230,000 social housing properties for British families,” she said.
A fierce campaigner against immigrants, Ms Badenoch reposted and supported Ms Whately announcement that Nigerians and other foreigners would be blocked from social housing in the UK.
Ms Badenoch’s Conservative Party push to exclude foreigners from social housing in UK comes as about 1.3 are on the waiting list for social housing.
UK housing charities have also raised the alarm that the backlog of those waiting for social housing would take more than a long time to clear at the current rate of construction.
