Kenneth Okonkwo announces resignation from Labour Party over leadership crises

Former spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign council, Kenneth Okonkwo, on Tuesday, announced his resignation from the party over its internal and leadership crises.
Mr Okonkwo in a statement on Tuesday said, “Since the party is non-existent as presently constituted, I am constrained to resign my membership of the party to all Nigerians of goodwill who supported us when we needed them most and to pledge my continued loyalty to the Nigerian people in all I will decide to do in my political future. This resignation takes effect from February 25, 2025, which marks the second anniversary of the presidential election of 2023, after which I will be at liberty to join other well meaning, and likeminded Nigerians in charting a great future of good governance for this great country blessed by God.”
He stated that he ventured into politics for good governance, and vowed to continue working to ensure Nigeria becomes a great country of incorruptible men but insisted that that aim could no longer be realised in the party as presently constituted.
Mr Okonkwo also criticised the party’s national leadership for staying longer than their tenure, and the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, for not prioritising the progress of the party over personal interests.
The former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress also expressed dissatisfaction that the caretaker committee led by Nenadi Usman, set up to address the party’s crises, was also facing legal battles stopping them from achieving its objective.
