Kidnap victim freed, five suspects nabbed in Edo: Police

The police command in Edo says it has rescued Jemila Ibrahim, a kidnap victim and also arrested five suspected kidnappers linked to the victim’s abduction around Okpege River Road, Iyuku area of the state.
Eno Ikoedem, the command’s spokesperson on Tuesday, said security operatives were in sustained bush combing on Wednesday at Okpege River Road.
“On 13th May, 2026, at about 1930hrs, security operatives engaged in sustained bush combing operations around Okpege River Road, Iyuku, successfully rescued one Jemila Ibrahim, who was kidnapped on 10th May, 2026,” she said.
Ms Ikoedem said the victim was rescued unharmed and taken to the hospital for medical attention, while suspects allegedly linked to the abduction were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Nura Saminu, 24; Shaibu Isah, 23; Suraj Sabitu, 23; Yajubu Sagiru, 23; and Oseni Abdullahi, 26.
“The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned before the court upon conclusion of investigation,” she added.
She said the commissioner of police in the state, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the operation and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes in Edo.
