Kidnapping: FG to install security surveillance system along Abuja-Kaduna highway

Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has inaugurated an eight-man committee to provide and install security surveillance systems along Abuja-Kaduna highway and rail line.
On Tuesday in Abuja, Mr Badaru said the surveillance system aimed to check for frequent security breaches along the routes.
The committee, headed by the director of joint services in the ministry, has members drawn from the security agencies.
The minister said the committee’s inauguration signified a remarkable milestone in ensuring safety along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway and Railway.
He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver tangible results, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to addressing security concerns on major transportation routes in the country.
Mr Badaru said the committee was mandated to source for a security surveillance system that meets the technical specifications, ensure its successful installation, and suggest other measures necessary for the seamless implementation of the system.
The committee has 18 months to complete the assignment.
The development comes amid the rise in abductions in Abuja and Kaduna. Mr Badaru and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had attributed this to the domino effect of military operations in the North-East.
