Global rights body Amnesty International says the recent killing of nine farmers in Kakangi village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, indicates that the peace deal with terrorists is failing.

It condemned the killing in a statement on Sunday, noting that bandits have made life hell for the villagers.

“Amnesty International strongly condemns the deadly bandits’ attack in which nine farmers were killed at Kakangi village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State,” it said.

The rights body added, “Increasing attacks in this area are yet another sign that the so-called peace deal with bandits is not working, as gradually the bandits escalate wanton attacks.”

Peoples Gazette earlier reported that bandits invaded the village on Saturday and killed nine farmers on their farms.

Amnesty International stated that the people of Birnin Gwari deserve peace, security, and protection from continued violence.

It warned that the attacks, coming at the peak of the farming season, could have far-reaching consequences for food production, livelihoods, and the safety of rural communities.

“The people of Birnin Gwari have been consistently targeted by bandits for over a decade. Recent renewed attacks clearly show that bandits are still on a rampage in the area, making life hell for villagers,” it added.
