Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has constituted a security strategic committee to strengthen peace in the communities across the state.

The Special assistant to Mr Abdulrazaq on communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, stated this in a Facebook post on Friday.

“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has constituted the Kwara State Security Strategy Committee comprising Kwara-born retired military generals and top security officers as part of the efforts to address challenges and strengthen peace in the local communities in the state,” the statement stated.

Mr Abdullateef said the committee was composed of Major General GA Wahab (retd) as chairman; Maj. Gen. Yemi Abidoye; Maj-Gen. Abubakar Ndalolo; Rear Admiral Aliyu Lawal; Air Commodore ASA Buhari; AIG Aderemi Opadokun; and Lt. Col. WA Lawal.

He added that the permanent Secretary (General Services), Shuaib Abdulganiyu, would serve as the secretary of the committee.

The development came amid killings and kidnappings in several communities in the state, raising concerns about the need for the government to intensify efforts to tackle the challenges.

On Friday, suspected bandits invaded Nuku community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of the state at 3:00am, killed five forest guards and kidnapped two others.

The state police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the assailants also damaged a patrol vehicle belonging to the police before the PMF operatives in the camp repelled them.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists, on Wednesday, paraded 176 women and children kidnapped in Woro in the Kaiama council area threatening to kill the captives if the Abdulrazaq-led government didn’t accede to their ransom demands.
