Jürgen Klopp recorded his 1000th managerial game as Liverpool and Chelsea played out a goalless draw in a mid-table Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

Tied on the same points and occupying the 9th and 10th positions, the game was a perfect time for them to show glimpses of hope following their previous poor run in the league. But both clubs failed to meet the fans’ expectations.

Only four minutes into the match, Kai Havertz found the net from a crossing that came through the left side of the pitch but was ruled out for an offside by referee Michael Oliver after consulting with VAR.

For the remainder of the first half, both Liverpool and Chelsea struggled to find their rhythm in the game as the lukewarm half ended goalless at Anfield.

Inside the opening minute of the second half, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté almost scored a potential goal of the season when his shot from the middle of the pitch beat Kepa, who was out of his post, but narrowly missed its target.

Meanwhile, Bernoit Badiashile almost broke the deadlock for Chelsea from a header but it was saved by goalkeeper Alisson Becker last-gasp leg effort.

Chelsea new signing Mykhailo Mudryk and ‘The Reds’ defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, both whom were brought on in the second half, failed to find the back of the net for their respective clubs after missing clear chances from the edges of the boxes.

In the closing minutes of the encounter, attempts were made by ‘The Blues’ and ‘The Reds’ on each other’s 18-yard area but lacked the cutting edge to put the ball into the net as the encounter ended goalless in Merseyside.

The outcome means that Liverpool has now failed to win any of their last three games in the League but provisional moved a position upward to 8th while Chelsea are still 10th on the league table.
