Kogi-born lawyer appointed into Biden’s White House legal team

Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo, a U.S.-based lawyer of Nigerian descent has been named amongst a team of attorneys at the White House by President-elect Joe Biden.

Mrs. Badejo’s appointment as Associate Counsel at the White House – official workplace of the U.S. president – was announced Monday by the incoming administration.

Born in Kogi to Nigerian immigrant Zachaeus Olorunnipa, Mrs. Badejo who identifies with Florida is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. 

She is also trained at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, as well as the University of Florida. 

The seasoned attorney makes a return to public service, having previously served in various capacities during the Obama administration. 

Mrs. Badejo currently lives in Washington D.C. with her husband, Tunde Badejo and son.

The incoming U.S. president, Mr. Biden, who would be sworn in on January 20, had earlier appointed two other Nigerians – Adewale Adeyemo and Osaremen Okolo as deputy treasury secretary and adviser on COVID-19 respectively.
