The Kogi police command has warned hoodlums to steer clear of polling booths and collation centres during the bye-election in Okura II state constituency on Saturday.

This warning was issued in a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesman, Williams Ovye-Aya.

Mr Ovye-Aya also warned the public against taking the law into their hands.

“Whoever is caught breaching the law regulating the conduct of the bye-election will be dealt with decisively. Police will not hesitate to deal with anyone who may want to disrupt the existing peace the state is enjoying.

“The commissioner of police in the state, Miller Dantawaye, reiterates the command’s unwavering commitment and preparedness, in collaboration with other security agencies, to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the bye-election.

“Dantawaye urges residents in the communities where the bye-election will take place to fully cooperate with law enforcement officers to guard against criminal elements who may want to disrupt the election process,” the police said.
