The Wife of the Kogi State governor, Sefinat Ododo, has empowered more than 200 women and vulnerable persons in Lokoja/Koton-Karfe Federal Constituency with cash grants, food items and wrappers.

Mrs Ododo made the presentation on Thursday at the palace of the Ohimegye Igu of Koton-Karfe as part of her grassroots-focused social support programme aimed at cushioning economic hardship and promoting social inclusion.

Mrs Ododo said that each beneficiary received a N50,000 cash grant, food items and wrappers to support livelihoods and household needs.

According to her, empowering women and supporting vulnerable citizens remained central to her vision of building stronger, united and economically resilient communities across Kogi.

She noted that investing in the welfare of women contributes to stronger families, peaceful communities and sustainable development.

The governor’s wife emphasised the need to support vulnerable members of society, saying every citizen deserved dignity, care and opportunities to thrive regardless of economic circumstances.

She called on individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to complement government efforts in providing social safety nets and economic opportunities for vulnerable groups.

Earlier, Mrs Ododo paid a courtesy visit to the Ohimegye Igu of Koton-Karfe, Saidu Salihu, where she commended the traditional ruler  for promoting peace and harmony in his domain.

She described peace and unity as essential foundations for development and acknowledged the role of traditional institutions in community advancement.

In his remarks, Mr Salihu commended the governor’s wife for her humanitarian interventions, describing the initiative as a source of hope and relief for many indigent citizens.

He urged her to sustain the programme and also praised the state government for developmental projects in healthcare, education, youth development and women empowerment.

Some of the beneficiaries who included Sadiat Umar and Rita Ibrahim, described the intervention as timely, saying the cash grants would support their businesses while the food items would ease household expenses.

They also commended the wife of the governor  for promoting inclusion and unity through the empowerment programme.
