The Kogi State Government has commended President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the establishment of state police.

It described the initiative as a generational reform capable of transforming Nigeria’s security architecture.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, gave the commendation in a statement on Thursday in Lokoja.

Mr Fanwo said the president reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to decentralise policing during a high-level engagement with governors at the Presidential Villa.

He quoted Mr Tinubu as stressing that state police had become imperative to tackle evolving security challenges, noting that decentralised law enforcement would strengthen community-based responses, enhance intelligence gathering and improve internal security nationwide.

The commissioner said the president’s position came as the National Assembly continued deliberations on constitutional and legislative frameworks to establish state police.

He described the move as bold and strategic for long-term national stability.

Mr Fanwo added that the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo aligned fully with the president’s vision and remained committed to reforms aimed at bringing security closer to the grassroots.

He described the proposed initiative as a decisive intervention capable of dismantling insecurity.

The commissioner also commended Mr Tinubu for ongoing economic and financial sector reforms, which he said complemented the broader national renewal agenda.

“As a government, we fully align with Mr President’s position and assure him, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, of our readiness to cooperate with all relevant authorities to make state police a reality,” the statement said.

Mr Fanwo maintained that sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities would address immediate threats and lay a foundation for enduring peace, security and development across the country.
