Kogi LG Polls: CP tasks politicians, electorate on peaceful conduct

Bertrand Onuoha, Commissioner of Police in Kogi, has advised politicians, their supporters and voters to ensure peace during Saturday’s local government council election.
Mr Onuoha gave the advice in an interview with journalists in Lokoja on Friday.
The CP, who spoke through SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the command’s police public relations officer (PPRO), said that police personnel had been deployed across the 21 local government areas to ensure a hitch-free election.
“Officers and men, along with other security agencies, are already at strategic locations across the 21 LGAs to ensure that Saturday’s council election is hitch-free and successful.
“What we expect from the 19 political parties participating in this election is for them to play the game according to the rules for the good of all and sundry,” he said.
Mr Onuoha also assured travellers of using the state as the gateway of unrestricted movement during the period.
The chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, also assured travellers passing through Kogi of unrestricted movement.
Mr Nda-Eri said that the restriction order was for residents, whom he advised to be at the polling units as early as 8 a.m. to exercise their franchise.
He said that polls would close at 3 p.m., while all those on the queue would be allowed to vote.
The commission chairman also appealed to the electorate to ensure they conducted themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner for the success of the exercise.
