The Kosofe Local Government  in Lagos State said that no fewer than 200 women were trained in a skills acquisition programme of the LG.

Temitayo Ogunlewe, wife of the executive chairman, Kosofe LG, made this known on Monday in Lagos.

She said that the one-week training programme was conceived in line with the women empowerment initiative under the present administration.

Mrs Ogunlewe was represented at the event by Oluwakemi Okunade, head of women affairs and poverty alleviation in the LG.

She said that the training would assist the women to acquire sustainable skills for a better standard of living.

“The programme is designed to empower women to be self-reliant and secure better living.

“The training focused on the production of home essentials, tie and dye and makeup artistry,” she said.

Mrs Ogunlewe said that the council would continue to engage and empower more women through the initiative.

Moyosore Ogunlewe, chairman, Kosofe LG, expressed joy that the vision conceived had materialised.

He emphasised the importance of self-reliance saying that “a woman given a voice through empowerment will come out a strong woman.”

He encouraged the beneficiaries to cultivate an entrepreneurial mind-set adding that it was the courage to continue that counts.

Oluloro Idowu, leader of the council’s legislative house, applauded the initiative.

He described it as a significant step towards reducing poverty and unemployment among women of the area.

Some beneficiaries lauded the training by recounting their experiences and testimonies, highlighting the techniques of what they learnt.

Bimbo Ajayi said that she learnt the process of making some home essentials in one week.

She said that the experience was something she cannot forget soon.

Ayobami Ayebo, an undergraduate, said the opportunity would make her independent while still studying in the university.

“This is a good development by our LG; I can still be making money while I am studying,” she said.
