President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday expressed grievous shock and disappointment in the nation’s national intelligence system, a day after insurgents breached a federal prison and set terrorists free.

“Saddened by the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje. I am disappointed with the intelligence system.

“How can terrorists organize, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it? I am expecting a comprehensive report on this shocking incident,” Mr Buhari said on Twitter.

The president stopped by the scene of the attack on Wednesday afternoon while heading to Senegal with his cabinet members for a regional economic summit.

No fewer than 600 prisoners escaped from the facility on Tuesday night after suspected Boko Haram overpowered security forces and seized control of the prison for hours.
