Kuwait steps up emergency measures amid severe weather

The Kuwaiti authorities on Thursday stepped up emergency and precautionary measures as unstable weather brought heavy rains, strong winds, and reduced visibility across the country.
The Ministry of Interior has urged citizens and residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during peak weather hours, expected between 10:00 a.m. (0700 GMT) and 8:00 p.m. (1700 GMT).
It has conditions that are gradually easing afterward.
Meteorologists warned that rainfall could be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong southerly winds reaching 60 to 70 km/h, reducing visibility and causing high waves along coastal areas.
Motorists were advised to drive carefully, lower speeds, and avoid areas prone to water accumulation.
The Ministry of Public Works deployed emergency teams nationwide to manage water pooling and maintain road safety, while authorities cautioned that scattered thunderstorms could intensify in some regions, with a chance of hail.
Weather conditions are expected to improve from Friday morning, with decreasing cloud cover and reduced chances of rain.
Officials encouraged the public to stay informed through official updates and report emergencies via designated hotlines.
