The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has extended his congratulatory message to Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party’s governor-elect, after he was declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun.

Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that Mr Adeleke polled 511,067 votes in the governorship election held across the 30 local government areas of the state to be re-elected for another four years.

“I congratulate my friend, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, on his victory in the 15 August 2026 Osun State Governorship Election,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said that as the leader of the opposition and a committed democrat, he commended the people of the state for exercising their democratic rights and reaffirming the power of the people’s mandate.

“This victory is a reminder that when citizens remain committed to their civic responsibilities and make their voices heard, the people’s will must prevail.

“I also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the election and encourage all stakeholders to continue to uphold the principles of credible, peaceful and transparent elections,” he said.

Mr Adeleke defeated his closest opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 444,815 votes.
