Kwara ex-speakers, APC legal adviser, others back Bolarinwa’s governorship race

Two former speakers of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yisa Benjamin and Adetiba Olalekan, alongside Ladi Mustapha, a former legal adviser to the All Progressives Congress (APC), have endorsed the 2027 governorship bid of Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa.
The trio alongside other APC leaders from the three senatorial districts in Kwara State declared their unanimous support for Mr Bolarinwa’s aspiration during a press conference on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of the party stakeholders, Mr Mustapha said, “At this critical juncture in Kwara’s political evolution, we firmly believe that leadership must be entrusted to an individual with proven integrity, experience, capacity, and a unifying disposition. After careful evaluation, Bolarinwa clearly stands out above other contenders for the office of governor.”
He noted that Mr Bolarinwa has demonstrated leadership and organisational capabilities while he was chairman of the APC in Kwara State in 2018.
“Kwara deserves a leader who is tested, trusted, and connected to the people,” Mr Mustapha said, adding that “Bolarinwa embodies these qualities, and we are confident that under his leadership, the state will witness inclusive growth, strengthened unity, and sustainable development.”
Mr Bolarinwa, who formally declared his intention to run on April 28, 2026, and has since submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to the APC national executives, had earlier vowed to tackle insecurity in Kwara State if elected governor in 2027.
The APC aspirant also pledged to prioritise quality healthcare, education, agriculture and social welfare services for residents in the state.
