Kwara inaugurates LG PHC task force to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery

The Kwara State Government on Wednesday in Ilorin inaugurated the Local Government Area Primary Health Care (PHC) Task Force as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and service delivery at the grassroots.

Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, at the inauguration, said the taskforce underscored the government’s commitment to deepening community ownership and accountability within the PHC system.

Ms Elelu, represented by the Director, Primary Health Care Systems, Dr Michael Oguntoye, explained that the team was expected to perform key roles, including monitoring and evaluation.

According to her, the taskforce will also supervise intervention programmes at the local level and create public awareness to ensure citizens take advantage of available healthcare initiatives.

She said, “The taskforce will help address the challenges faced by health workers and mobilise resources to support primary healthcare programmes in their respective areas.”

Also, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated task force, Shehu AbdulRahman, emphasised the importance of having a functional health taskforce at the local level.

Mr AbdulRahman, also the Chairman, Ilorin West Local Government, described the task force as a key step towards strengthening the health system and improving access to quality care.

He commended the state government for its commitment to healthcare delivery, attributing the progress recorded in the sector to the visionary leadership of the state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In his goodwill message, the Social Behavioral Change Consultant, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Dr Usman Danlami, commended Ilorin West for its outstanding performance in the PHC sector.

Mr Danlami appreciated the collaborative efforts of the state government and reaffirmed the partners’ commitment to supporting initiatives which promoted stronger health systems and improved service delivery. (NAN)
