The police command in Kwara State has arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen motorcycle following a violent attack on two commuters along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Tuesday, said the incident occurred on June 4, 2026, at about 2000hrs when two commuters returning from a market were attacked by a group of armed men wielding sticks and cutlasses.

“The assailants inflicted injuries on the victims and forcefully dispossessed them of their motorcycle before fleeing the scene,” she stated.

Ms Ejire-Adeyemi explained that upon receipt of the report, operatives launched a coordinated operation in collaboration with personnel of the National Forest Security Service operating within the area.

She added that the operation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of four suspects: Umaru Haruna, Habibu Kale, Kire Yelwa, and Iliyasu Gambo.

Noting preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects acted in concert during the commission of the crime, Ms Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the investigation further revealed that the leader of the criminal gang, identified as Sumo and believed to be in possession of the group’s weapons, remains at large.

“Tactical and intelligence-driven efforts have been intensified to apprehend the suspect and recover any arms in his possession,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, commended the swift response and collaboration between the police and the national forest security service, which led to the successful recovery of the stolen motorcycle and arrest of the suspects.

According to the command, the investigation is ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and recover the group’s weapons have been intensified.

The command added that the arrested suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
