The Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Dr Abdul Jimoh, has commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for effective administration and development of the institution.

Mr Jimoh gave the commendation on Thursday during the third International Conference of the Institute of Environmental Studies (IES), held at the polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara.

He attributed the successes recorded by the management to the support provided by the state government, which he said created conducive conditions for institutional growth.

The theme of the conference was “Scientific and Technological Innovations in the Built Environment in the 21st Century: Towards Social and Economic Development of Nigeria.”

The rector urged participants to explore science and technology as veritable tools for national development, particularly in addressing emerging challenges confronting Nigeria’s built environment.

Earlier, the Director of IES, Yunus Azeez, said rapid advancements in science and technology had presented unprecedented opportunities to enhance quality of life, foster economic growth and address environmental challenges.

Mr Azeez said the conference provided a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices and promoting collaboration on innovative solutions aimed at transforming the environment and communities.

He called on participants to leverage innovation not only for technological advancement, but also as a catalyst for promoting social equity and economic development across the country.

Also, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Rotimi Asonibare, appreciated the rector for his support in developing 21st-century academics and students capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

Mr Asonibare said 21st-century educators must emphasise practical application and problem-solving approaches to managing environmental challenges in an increasingly globalised world and society.

Awards were presented to the rector, former directors of the institute and a former deputy director during the conference.

A document on landscaping the polytechnic environment was also officially presented to the rector as part of efforts to improve the institution’s physical environment.
