Kwara: RTEAN urges motorists to avoid night travel amid rising insecurity

Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Kwara has advised motorists to avoid travelling at night on high-risk roads due to prevailing security challenges in the country.
The state chairman of the association, Abdulrahman Onikijipa, gave the advice in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Ilorin.
According to him, motorists should avoid night journeys on dangerous routes and remain vigilant, particularly on highways and isolated roads.
Mr Onikijipa said the association had intensified sensitisation efforts to educate drivers on safety measures through regular meetings, drivers’ briefings and union engagements.
“As an association, we are taking the issue of kidnapping very seriously.
“We have intensified sensitisation across our branches through regular meetings, drivers’ briefings and union platforms.
“We emphasise the need for drivers to be conscious of their surroundings and prioritise alertness and vigilance while on the road.
“Drivers should avoid travelling at night, especially on high-risk and isolated routes, as most security incidents occur during late hours,” he said.
The chairman also advised drivers to confirm road conditions and obtain security updates before embarking on any journey.
He urged motorists to travel with fully charged mobile phones, keep emergency contact numbers handy and avoid unnecessary stops or picking up unknown passengers along the roadside or in isolated areas.
