The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project in Bauchi State has approved the establishment of a large Livestock Service Centre in Galambi, with construction already at an advanced stage.

The state coordinator of L-PRES, Musa Adamu-One, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Friday in Bauchi.

Mr Adamu-One expressed optimism that the facility would be completed within the year, noting that progress at the site is visible to commuters along the Galambi–Liman Katagum corridor.

He said the L-PRES project was designed to boost livestock production and strengthen the livestock value chain through improved infrastructure, modern technology, and expanded commercial opportunities for livestock owners, traders, and pastoralists.

According to him, the project covers all aspects of livestock development, including dairy and meat production, as well as small ruminants such as sheep and goats.

The coordinator said the initiative was community-focused and aimed at promoting sustainable growth in the livestock sector.

He explained that while the project prioritised key interventions in crop and animal production in 2025, the 2026 work plan would focus mainly on major infrastructural development.

“Planned projects include grazing-related infrastructure such as water points for herders, modern abattoirs and veterinary clinics.

“We are also developing organised pasture areas with fenced land, planted grasses, and a reliable water supply,” he said.

Mr Adamu-One added that the project was promoting value addition by providing processing equipment for animal feed supplements and encouraging the use of crop residues as alternative livestock feed to reduce waste.

He also disclosed that L-PRES was emphasising livestock breed improvement through artificial insemination.

According to him, a major facility currently under construction in Bauchi will serve as a breed improvement centre, alongside a proposed liquid nitrogen plant for semen preservation.

The coordinator said L-PRES was a people-centred initiative aimed at improving livelihoods, meat hygiene, and economic growth across Bauchi State.

He commended Governor Bala Mohammed and the commissioner for livestock development, Bala Lukshi, for their support of the project.
