La Liga: Atlético thrash Real Madrid 5-2 in derby clash

Atlético Madrid thrashed their city rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in a one-sided Madrid derby.
Saturday’s El Derbi Madrileño saw the home side stun their neighbours with five goals, handing Real their first league defeat of the season and the first loss under Xabi Alonso.
Atlético opened the scoring through centre-back Robin Le Normand, who headed home from a Giuliano Simeone assist, making it his second goal of the season.
The visitors hit back as Kylian Mbappé found the net after an excellent link-up with Turkish international Arda Güler. Moments later, Vinícius Júnior capitalised on a misplaced volley from Le Normand to set up Güler for his second of the night.
Just before halftime, Atlético levelled when Alexander Sørloth converted a precise cross from captain Koke.
After the restart, Julián Álvarez struck twice, first from the penalty spot and later with a curling free kick that left Thibaut Courtois helpless.
Before the final whistle, Antoine Griezmann added a fifth with a brilliant finish from an Alex Baena assist, sealing a memorable victory for Diego Simeone’s men.
The result lifts Atlético into fourth place ahead of their Champions League clash with Frankfurt on Tuesday and a league meeting with Celta Vigo on Sunday.
Real Madrid remain top of the table and will face Kairat Almaty in Europe this week before hosting Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday.
