Lagos assembly removes Onafeko as clerk, confirms new appointments

The Lagos State House of Assembly says it has resolved to remove Mr Olalekan Onafeko as clerk with immediate effect.
The decision followed deliberations by lawmakers and was adopted through a voice vote during plenary on Tuesday, signalling broad support among members.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who presided over the proceedings, said the removal was in line with established rules governing tenure in the assembly.
Mr Obasa explained that Mr Onafeko’s tenure had elapsed, making the decision a procedural step rather than a disciplinary measure.
Mr Onafeko had served as clerk since January 14, 2022, overseeing legislative administration and coordination of House activities.
The speaker commended his contributions, noting that his tenure witnessed key legislative engagements and institutional developments within the assembly.
Mr Obasa also announced the appointment of Adenike Osinowo as the new clerk of the House, with immediate assumption of duties.
He expressed confidence in Ms Osinowo’s capacity, stating that her experience would strengthen legislative processes and administrative efficiency.
Meanwhile, the assembly confirmed Latifat Ogbara as chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission.
Lawmakers described Mr Ogbara’s confirmation as well deserved, citing her competence and track record in public service.
The House further confirmed Remi Bello as a member of the commission, tasking him with supporting institutional reforms
Members urged the new appointees to uphold professionalism, transparency, and dedication in discharging their responsibilities.
