Lagos: Commissioner tasks union on constructive dialogue, commitment to service

Afolabi Ayantayo, the commissioner for establishment and training, Lagos State, has urged the senior staff health workers to be proactive in providing policy discussions/recommendations that promote their commitment to service delivery.
Mr Ayantayo gave the advice while delivering a keynote speech at the inauguration of the Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospitals Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIA), Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) branch, on Friday in Lagos.
The commissioner, represented by Anne Kushimo, director of industrial relations, urged the union to uphold the principles of integrity and industrial harmony while proactively providing policy discussions that promote members’ commitment to effective service delivery.
According to him, constructive engagement/dialogue is the most effective means of driving concerns, urging the union to embrace it in movements to achieve their demands and welfare.
The commissioner assured the state government’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of responsible labour unions were heard and their concerns addressed.
” Embrace a forward-thinking approach and constructive engagement because dialogue remains the most effective means of driving concerns.
“The state government remains committed to promoting policies that ensure harmonious dialogue toward the protection of workers’ rights,” Mr Ayantayo said.
Adedayo Samuel-Ayo, vice-sector chairman of SSAUTHRIA, identified the senior staff as the “engine room” of the hospital, urging them to work in collaboration with the hospital management to enhance development.
Mr Samuel-Ayo urged the hospital management to prioritise the welfare of the staff to encourage efficient service delivery and performance.
He said, “Both the hospital and the senior staff should see themselves as partners in progress.”
The chief medical director of LASUTH, Adetokunbo Fabamwo, reiterated the hospital’s commitment to improving the welfare of the staff and addressing concerns of the union.
Represented by Sunday Olawoeye, deputy chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) LASUTH, Mr Fabamwo congratulated the union for setting up the LASUTH Branch.
Dada-David Oludare, the new SSAUTHRIA chairman of the LASUTH branch, said the executives and staff would work with the hospital management to attain its objectives.
