Lagos council boss warns against violence ahead of APC primary elections

Kareem Abiodun, the chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against violence ahead of the party’s primary elections.
Mr Abiodun, in a statement on Wednesday, urged them to embrace peace and sportsmanship.
According to him, the APC is not a violent party, and party members are expected to conduct themselves peacefully during the primaries.
“We are warning those planning to employ gun runners. Whoever is planning to employ gun runners in the primary exercise should please rethink it; it is not necessary. Please desist,” the chairman said.
Mr Abiodun urged party members to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith.
“Just like football, where surely a winner will emerge in the spirit of sportsmanship, party members must be ready to accept the outcome once a candidate emerges.
“After the emergence of the winner, let’s embrace ourselves, support whoever emerges and move forward.
“The council under my leadership will not tolerate any act capable of disrupting public order before, during or after the primary election,” he said.
The council chairman said the election remains a family affair and not a do-or-die contest.
He promised to provide entertainment and music during the elections to give the primaries a peaceful atmosphere.
Mr Abiodun also assured that he would continue to engage party members during ward meetings on the need for unity and peaceful conduct during the elections.
