Residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA in Lagos State have been warned against roadside refuse dumping as the council intensifies efforts to improve sanitation and public health.

The council chairman, Olalekan Olu-Akindipe, popularly called ‘Lampholder’, issued the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos on Wednesday.

Mr Olu-Akindipe directed residents, traders and market leaders to patronise only approved private sector participants for waste collection services.

He described indiscriminate dumping as harmful, stressing that proper waste disposal remained essential to healthier and safer communities.

“Our administration is committed to ensuring Ajeromi remains clean, safe and conducive for all residents,” he said.

He said the council’s newly deployed compactor would strengthen waste evacuation and improve sanitation across communities.

“This means we are not just evacuating refuse; we are building a culture of environmental responsibility.

“Our goal is to ensure every street, neighbourhood and public space reflects standards of a modern, well-managed community,” he said.

The chairman described environmental cleanliness as a shared responsibility that directly improves public health and residents’ quality of life.

He said the initiative aligned with the Lagos State government’s reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation exercises.

The sanitation exercise now occurs on the last Saturday of every month, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., requiring residents to clean their surroundings.

Mr Olu-Akindipe said his administration would sustain campaigns promoting a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible council.

Also speaking, Ayedungbe Adesanya, the Baale of Ajegunle, urged residents to keep their surroundings clean.

According to the traditional ruler, a clean environment promotes healthy living and helps prevent disease outbreaks across communities.
