Mojisola Meranda, the deputy speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has won the APC primary for the Apapa Constituency I with 2,926 votes. This is according to the results from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
There was an unprecedented turnout of All Progressives Congress faithful during the primaries held at Ijora, Apapa Constituency I, Lagos on Wednesday.
The exercise, held at Ijora Oloye Nursery and Primary School, began around 1:00 p.m. It was peaceful despite a large turnout of party members.
Four candidates (Ms Meranda, Esan Adedotun, Mike Egbayelo and Elizabeth Toluwalope) contested in the primary.
Delegates and agents arrived from 9:00 a.m., while SSS, police and NSCDC personnel provided security at the venue. Ms Meranda arrived around 12:45 p.m.
Adams Aremu, APC youth leader in Ijora, said Ms Meranda enjoyed strong grassroots support and described the primaries as a “victory day” for her. He added that her projects across Apapa Constituency I cut across wards, supporting small businesses and attracting widespread community backing.
A party executive, Joseph Layode, said residents had spoken through their votes and praised Meranda’s performance in office.
“She could become the next speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he said.
Folasade Ojomo, a delegate, said continuity was best for the constituency and backed Ms Meranda’s leadership.
