Lagos driver remanded over rape of food vendor

The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Oluwaseun Opatola, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a food seller.
The chief magistrate, Omolara Kushanu, did not take the defendant’s plea.
She directed that he be remanded in custody until March 15, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The defendant, a driver residing at 25 Leadway, Agbede, in Ikorodu, Lagos, is facing allegations of rape.
The prosecutor, Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 16, 2025, at the Kosofe Local Government premises in Ogudu, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant met the victim, a 23-year-old food vendor, near the local government office, asked her to prepare noodles and eggs, and then bring them to his office.
The prosecutor alleged that at the close of work, when most staff had left, the defendant shut the door and raped the victim.
He said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
