The chairman of the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government of Lagos, Usman Hamzat, has secured the establishment of a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrolment centre in the council area.

Mr Hamzat disclosed this in a statement by his chief press secretary, Lateef Salam, on Thursday in Lagos.

The development followed Mr Hamzat’s engagement with the Lagos office of NIMC in Alausa, Ikeja, during a technical meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Hamzat said this would bring the National Identification Number (NIN) services closer to residents, ease congestion at the Alausa centre and improve efficiency in registration and data management.

“For years, residents of Ifako-Ijaiye had to go to other local governments or to the crowded Alausa centre to enroll, correct, or update their NIN records.

“The new centre is expected to reduce travel stress and enhance service delivery at the grassroots,” he said.

Mr Hamzat assured the commission of the council’s readiness to provide accommodation, facilities, and tools to ensure the swift establishment and seamless operation of the centre.

“The collaborative effort between Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government and NIMC is a major boost for residents, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to people-centred governance and improved access to vital national identity services,” he said.

Commending the intervention, NIMC officials Gbolahan Tobiloba and Lasisi Oladele lauded Mr Hamzat’s leadership.

They said the centre would be fully integrated into the state network to serve the local government effectively.
