Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun inaugurated a newly constructed Divisional Police Headquarters in Epe, Lagos State, on Friday.

The headquarters was donated by Olawale Raji, the member representing Epe Federal Constituency.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Oke-Oyinbo, Epe, Mr Egbetokun described the facility as a major milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to enhance security infrastructure and strengthen community partnerships across Lagos State.

The IGP announced that the station had been upgraded from a regular police station to a divisional headquarters, a development expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce police response time within the Epe Division.

Mr Egbetokun, represented at the event by Lagos State Commissioner of Police Jimoh Olohundare, commended Mr Raji for his visionary leadership, dedication to his constituency, and commitment to public safety.

“By donating this well-equipped police headquarters, Hon. Raji has strengthened the pillars of safety, law enforcement, and community trust,” he added.

The new facility was named after the late Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ganiyu Agbaje, in recognition of his distinguished service and contributions to policing in Nigeria.

The IGP encouraged residents to take ownership of the facility, emphasising that it belonged to the community.

Mr Jimoh, while speaking with journalists after the inauguration, said Lagos police now respond within five minutes on average, crediting the IGP and the state governor for their support.

He said the “Eko Strike Force” now “operates with 12 patrol vehicles and four armored carriers, ensuring quicker and more efficient responses to emergencies.”

The commissioner also commended the people of Epe for their discipline and cooperation with the police.

“I have never had to deploy my officers to Epe for crisis management. The peace and order here are commendable and worthy of emulation,” he added.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure Lagos for business, families, and future generations, pledging continued partnership with communities across the state.

Mr Raji, who conceived the project three years ago due to the inadequacy of the old station, said the new HQ reflects collaboration between the government and community.

He also commended the police for reducing cultism and other criminal activities in the area since 2015.

Meanwhile, Mr Raji announced plans to allocate 400 free market shops by November and to construct four new roads in Epe.

The inauguration was attended by police officers, other security agencies, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and party members, who praised Mr Raji’s leadership, philanthropy, and development efforts.
