Lagos LG trains clerical officers in capacity building, job ethics

The Lagos Mainland Local Government (LG) on Friday organised a two-day capacity-building and job ethics workshop for clerical officers to enhance staff performance, productivity, and effective service delivery.
The workshop, held at the council secretariat, was part of ongoing efforts by the current chairman, Jubril Emilagba, to strengthen institutional capacity and improve public service standards.
Akintola Wasiu, council manager, who represented the chairman at the event opening, said the Emilagba-led administration remained committed to staff development and welfare.
He urged participants to make good use of the opportunity, saying the success of any organisation depended on the competence and ethical conduct of its workforce.
“This workshop is not just a routine exercise; it is part of our long-term plan to reposition Lagos Mainland local government for greater efficiency,” he said.
The facilitator, Apanishile Ademola, said he would engage participants through interactive discussions and practical sessions on time management, communication skills, record keeping, and teamwork.
Mr Ademola stressed that professionalism and adaptability are essential for a productive workforce, noting that continuous learning underpins sustainable service delivery.
“Public servants must be adaptable, ethical, and result-driven. When you improve yourself, you also improve the institution you serve,” he said.
The head of administration and human resources, Adeyemi Kehinde, commended the council chairman and management for prioritising training and human capital development.
“Our council leadership has continued to show genuine interest in staff welfare. This is another testament to Mr Emilagba’s people-centered administration,” she said.
Some participants expressed appreciation to the council for organising the training, describing it as timely and impactful.
Shukurat Adebanjo, a clerical officer in the accounts department, said the sessions would help her understand the importance of effective communication and teamwork in public service.
“This training would help me change the way I see my job. I should be able to understand better that communication and proper record keeping are the keys to efficiency,” she said.
Another participant, Sunday Olayinka, said the workshop would provide practical tools for better time management and workplace ethics.
“This is a good development; at the end of the second day, I should have learnt how to plan my tasks better and avoid procrastination,” he said.
The training began on October 24 and would end on October 27.
