Olusegun Osinaike, the tour general/permanent secretary of education district II  of Lagos State, on Friday, tasked schools in the district with a safe learning environment.

The advice came against the backdrop of the resumption of schools in Lagos.

Mr Osinaike, who embarked on a monitoring exercise across schools in education district II, said it was to ensure a smooth resumption for the 2025/2026 academic session.

He urged teachers and students to commit themselves to hard work, discipline, and dedication, emphasising that the ultimate goal of education is to achieve excellent results in key examinations such as BECE, WAEC, and NECO.

He noted that sustained effort, coupled with effective teaching and learning practices, would enable schools within the district to surpass previous records and achieve even greater academic milestones.

The permanent secretary reiterated the Lagos government’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence.

He called on schools to not only serve as centres of learning but also as safe spaces where students would be  nurtured to become responsible citizens.

Mr Osinaike further stressed that eradicating SGBV in schools and, by extension, the broader community remained  essential for creating an enabling environment where every child could  thrive, as outlined in the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He assured that education district II remained committed to academic excellence, discipline, and moral values while working collaboratively with stakeholders to raise a generation of students,  who are academically sound, socially responsible, and globally competitive.

The schools visited include Ikosi Senior and Junior High Schools, Ayedere Ajibola Junior and Senior Schools, Lajo Community Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, Eva Adelaja Junior and Senior Girls’ Grammar Schools, Keme Balogun Senior College, and Kosofe Senior and Junior College, among others.

He encouraged parents to complement the efforts of teachers by providing a supportive home environment for their children, stressing that parental involvement remained a critical factor in students’ academic success.

Mr Osinaike reaffirmed that the district would continue to deploy monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track the progress of schools, identify areas of improvement, and promptly address challenges that could hinder learning outcomes.

He commended the dedication of school administrators and teaching staff who, despite challenges, continued to give their best to the development of education in Lagos state.

He urged them to remain focused and innovative in their teaching approaches, as the collective effort of all stakeholders remained vital in sustaining excellence in education.
