The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening road safety through continuous training and education of driving school operators.

Mr Osiyemi spoke at the 2026 Driving School Instructors and Operators Train-the-Trainer Workshop, on Thursday in Lagos.

The workshop had the theme, “Enhancing Road Safety through Continuous Training and Education of Driving School Operators in Lagos State.”

He noted that driving schools played a critical role in equipping drivers with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for safe driving.

“There is a need for strict instructor certification, standardised curricula, rigorous testing, background checks, periodic re-licensing and continuous professional development.

“There is also a need to include training in defensive driving, hazard perception, vehicle technology and evolving traffic laws,” he said.

The commissioner further called for regular refresher training for driving instructors, noting that the growing number of vehicles on the roads made continuous capacity building increasingly important in reducing crashes and fatalities.
