Two suspected members of a three-man armed robbery gang were arrested on Monday for allegedly attacking and dispossessing residents in Ikeja, Lagos State, of their belongings.

The Lagos police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement on Thursday that officers arrested the suspects following a distress call at about 7:15 p.m. on September 29.

She said the investigation revealed that the gang members come from Mushin to carry out their criminal activities in Ikeja.

Ms Adebisi said, “Operatives of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two armed robbers, Segun Adeyemi ‘m’, aged 32, and Abayomi Ajayi ‘m’, aged 24, who were caught in the act of dispossessing unsuspecting citizens of their valuables around Shoprite, Ikeja, and the Maryland axis.

“The suspects, who were part of a three-man gang operating on a motorcycle, were trailed and arrested following a swift police response to a distress call.”

Ms Adebisi, who said the third suspect escaped, noted that officers recovered the gang’s operational vehicle.

She assured that efforts have been intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect.

“The arrested suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the other members of the gang. All the suspects involved will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations,” Ms Adebisi stated.

The state commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents of his command’s resolve to rid the state of criminals and urged them to continue providing timely and credible information for effective crime prevention and control.
