Lagos seals 14 churches, hotels for noise pollution, flouting of environmental laws

The commissioner said the operation reflects the agency’s resolve to maintain environmental standards and protect public health in the state.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed 14 establishments for alleged noise pollution and violation of environmental laws.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said churches and hotels were shut down.

“The establishments affected include the National Conference of the Calvary Cross, Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Cherubim & Seraphim Church (Asale Agbala), Le Silhouette Hotel, Walik Hotel, Rhonny’s Place, Obans Events Centre, Stop Over Inn, Bigcat Bakery, Girrong Hotel & Bar, Anjia Prefabricated Construction (Nig) Co. Ltd, Tois Bar & Holiday Inn, a quarry site, and Ambassador Villa,” Mr Wahab said.

The commissioner said the LASEPA’s enforcement operation against the establishments was conducted in different parts of the state “to combat noise pollution and other environmental violations.”

He said the operation took place at “Itokin Road, Maya, Erunwen, Elepe Road, Awolowo Way, Ijede Road and the Igbogbo Road area in Ikorodu.”

The commissioner said the operation reflects the agency’s resolve to maintain environmental standards and protect public health in the state.
