The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has shut down Mega Plaza shopping mall for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into the environment.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement on his X handle, and attached a video of the flowing wastewater.

He said the LSWMO, “sealed off a Mega Plaza shopping mall on No. 13/17, Breadfruit Street, Lagos Island, for discharging untreated wastewater into the environment via the use of a pumping machine.”

Mr Wahab noted that the sealing of the building carried out on Thursday was in line with the state’s environmental laws, in its zero tolerance for degrading of the environment.

He added that the enforcement operation demonstrated the agency’s commitment to sustainable environment, proper sanitation and public health safety in the state.
