Lagos: Tanker bursts into flames under Otedola Bridge

Several buildings were affected after a fallen petrol tanker under the Otedola Bridge in Lagos State went up in flames on Tuesday, authorities said.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed this in a post on social media platform X.
“A tanker has fallen and caught fire, affecting nearby structures, including a church, residential house, and mechanics’ parks at Otedola Under Bridge, adjacent to CMD Road,” the agency said.
It added, “Fire rescue teams are currently at the scene, working to extinguish the fire and mitigate the situation.”
The agency said movement had been restricted under the bridge, resulting in a complete blockade of the area.
LASTMA condemned the reckless attempts by motorists to find their way through the area of the inferno, thereby ignoring directives to use alternative routes.
“Despite repeated warnings and roadblocks, we have received reports that some motorists are recklessly attempting to navigate through the fire incident area, putting their lives at risk. This behaviour is extremely hazardous and strongly discouraged,” LASTMA added.
