Lagos task force arrests 26 suspected miscreants, drug peddlers

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force) has apprehended 26 suspected miscreants, drug peddlers, and other offenders during a clean-up enforcement operation in Victoria Island and Obalende.
The spokesperson for the agency, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Mr Gbadeyan said the operation formed part of the agency’s sustained efforts to rid the state of street urchins, miscreants, drug addicts and peddlers, illegal commercial motorcycle riders, street traders, illegal ticket touts, and other criminal elements.
“The enforcement exercise commenced at about 8:00 a.m. and covered Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island and the Obalende Underbridge.
“Twenty-six suspects were arrested during the operation,” he said.
The spokesperson said that substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado, and other hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.
Mr Gbadeyan said the operation restored normalcy to the affected locations, assuring residents that the agency would sustain its enforcement drive to ensure public order and safety.
According to him, all the suspects will be charged to court in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
The spokesperson reiterated the agency’s commitment to enforcing relevant state laws and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment across Lagos.
He urged residents to support the government’s efforts by obeying environmental and traffic regulations and reporting unlawful activities to the appropriate authorities.
