The Lagos State Environmental Task Force, on Saturday, raided parts of Lagos Island and arrested 52 suspected criminals denying residents of their belongings.
Commissioner of environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement, said the clean up enforcement operation was carried out around 12:35 p.m.
Mr Wahab said, “Complaints and distressed calls suggest that some of these Streets are populated in the night by unscrupulous elements; miscreants, street urchins, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals denying innocent Lagosians of their hard earned valuables and belongings.
“During the raid exercise, a total number of 52 suspects, populated by 51 males and 1 female were arrested, sanity was restored in all the areas visited,” he added.
The areas raided by the task force are Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo bridge, Eko Hotel and Ligali Ayorinde where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.
Mr Wahab said the enforcement operation is part of series of clean up exercises slated for at least twice a week to rid the state of criminal elements.
He assured that the nabbed suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
