The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced Kolawole Muyiwa, a part-time lecturer at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, now called the Lagos State University of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, to life imprisonment for raping a student of the institution.

Justice Rahman Oshodi gave the judgment on Thursday. He held that the testimonies of the survivor corroborated those of the lawyer and the IPO, a statement on Saturday by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

“Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday, February 27 2025, convicted and sentenced a part-time lecturer at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (now Lagos State University of Education), Kolawole Muyiwa, to life imprisonment for raping a student,” the agency said.

The convict committed the offence at the institution on October 11, 2021, and was arraigned on October 6, 2023, when he pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

During the trial, the prosecution called the victim, a lawyer and vice chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Badagry branch, Caroline Ibe, and the investigating police officer, Olufunke, as witnesses.

The judge said, “I note that you are a first-time offender with no criminal record, and you are married with three children and also served as a part-time lecturer. However, the gravity of the offence committed cannot be overlooked.”

“As a part-time lecturer, you occupied the position of trust and authority which you abused; the victim was a student at the institution where you taught.”

The prosecution said the lecturer’s offence contravened section 260 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, adding that following his conviction, his name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by the state.
